Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings or 24 wings
  • sea salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

Spicy Asian Chicken Wing Sauce

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos *or 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons SunButter No Sugar Added or Organic
  • 2 tablespoons paleo sriracha sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar unsweetened
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder

Instructions

  • Dry the wings by either letting them sit out at room temperature or using paper towels to blot off excess moisture. Lightly salt and pepper them, and then sprinkle them with baking powder.
  • Heat an air fryer to 390º F and set it for 5 minutes to preheat. Once it’s heated, add the chicken wings, and reset the air fryer to 390º F for 15 minutes.
  • Add all the wing sauce ingredients to a skillet, and whisk until combined. Heat the sauce over medium heat, and whisk to smooth it out, letting it lightly boil for a couple of minutes. The sauce will continue to thicken up as it cools, so don’t over simmer it.
  • Take your wings out of the air fryer, and toss it in the hot Asian wing sauce. Serve them garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.

Notes

Can I cook frozen chicken wings in an air fryer? Yes! If you start with frozen chicken wings, increase the cooking time to 25 minutes. After about 15 minutes, flip the wings over so the bottoms get crispy as well.
Do I need to use wing sauce for this air fryer chicken wings recipe? You can use your favorite bottled sauce, this Asian chicken wings recipe, or eat the chicken wings dry. They are delicious just with salt and pepper. Teriyaki sauce is a good sauce for chicken wings. Or, use whatever seasonings you would use on chicken breasts, like lemon juice and thyme.
