Java Chip Mocha Green Smoothie

A clean version of the coffee house favorite. Save money, calories, and time by creating your own, not to mention, adding a lot of health boosting ingredients to your morning!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup light coconut milk canned
  • 1/2-3/4 cup water depending on desired thickness
  • 1 banana frozen, cut into chunks
  • 2 cups fresh spinach or 3 frozen spinach cubes
  • 6-8 large ice cubes depending on desired thickness!
  • 10 grams unsweetened natural whey protein isolate
  • 2 teaspoon natural unsweetened cocoa powder I love raw cocoa - but use 3 teaspoons of that
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract optional
  • 1 tablespoon dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate (85% is my favorite)

Instructions

  • Add the liquid first, spinach second, followed by the rest of the smoothie ingredients, except the chocolate chips.
  • Blend until mixture is very smooth, and has started to fluff up in volume. In a Vitamix, this should take about 1-2 minutes. When I make green smoothies in my regular blender, it usually takes 3-4 minutes.
  • Tamper down as necessary until the blender gets going, and really blends up all the greens.
  • Add the chocolate chips, and pulse 10-12 times, until they are chopped up but not fully blended.

Notes

*I use and love Biochem Natural Whey Protein Isolate. It's grassfed, high quality whey protein isolate, tastes great, makes my smoothies extra "fluffy", and is a reasonable price. I want my smoothies to taste like the ingredients I add, not like artificial sweeteners or flavorings.
