Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground pork look for pastured or organic pork
  • 1 1/2 cup cilantro chopped
  • 1/2 cup shallots minced
  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons ginger powder
  • sesame seeds to garnish, optional
  • green onions chopped, to garnish, optional

Spicy Asian Sauce

Instructions

Pork Meatballs

  • Add the ground pork, cilantro, shallots, coconut aminos, salt and ginger powder to a mixing bowl. Mix until evenly combined.
  • Scoop the meat into balls. Make smaller meatballs (about 20) for an appetizer type serving, or larger meatballs (about 12) for more of a dinner entree.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 390º F for 5 minutes.
  • Add the meatballs into the hot air fryer. If making about 20 meatballs, cook for 8 minutes. If your meatballs are larger (about 12), cook for 11 minutes, or until pork is cooked through.
  • Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce, and stir to coat them. Garnish the meatballs with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Spicy Asian Sauce

  • Add the water, coconut aminos, honey, sriracha, SunButter, and ginger to a saucepan. Add a pinch of salt, if desired. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, whisking to incorporate the SunButter. After it begins to simmer, continue cooking and whisking for about 2 minutes, so the SunButter starts to thicken the sauce. It will continue to thicken as it cools.

Notes

Don’t have Ground Pork? It can be difficult to find! I buy it at Whole Foods. You can also make these with ground beef, turkey, or chicken!
Need these to be mild? You can turn this in to a more traditional sweet and sour type sauce by omitting the chili sauce and adding 1 tablespoon of tomato paste to the sauce. Season it with extra salt.
No Air Fryer?
  • Bake these Asian pork meatballs by preheating the oven to 400º F, and laying out the meatballs on a lined baking tray. Bake the meatballs for about 15 minutes, or until cooked through.
  • Use a skillet to brown the meatballs. Prior to making the sauce, brown the meatballs in a skillet over medium heat with a little avocado oil. Once they are cooked through (about 15 minutes), remove them from the skillet to make the sauce. Once the sauce has thickened, add them back into the skillet with the sauce.
