The Best Air Fryer Chicken Wings
Honestly, for the first year I owned an air fryer, I used it almost exclusively for Brussels sprouts. Or Brussels sprouts with bacon (yes please!).
That all changed when I started making these DELICIOUS crispy Air Fryer Chicken Legs. The coating is so crispy they are just as satisfying as fried chicken.
Recently I picked up some chicken wings and knew that they were destined for the air fryer.
You can prepare these however you’d like — salt and pepper the chicken wings, and eat them hot straight from the air fryer. You won’t be disappointed.
Or, prepare them with a classic wing sauce. I love wing sauce heated with a few tablespoons of pastured butter.
I highly suggest you try this amazing Asian wing sauce! It’s like a spicy and tangy peanut sauce. It’s so flavorful, you can skip the dipping sauce.
You might also like this Air Fryer Sesame Chicken recipe or these Air Fryer Parmesan Garlic Wings!
You’ll love this recipe because:
- The air fryer crisps up the chicken skin similar to a deep fryer, but without the need for using oil!
- It’s a great appetizer to share, but also a great meal served alongside a salad or roasted veggies.
- The sauce — don’t get me started here! I use SunButter Sunflower Seed butter to give the sauce a nutty flavor, similar to a peanut sauce, but it’s allergy friendly! It’s tangy, sweet, spicy, and salty — a great melding!
How to Cook Chicken Wings in an Air Fryer
It’s very easy to cook chicken wings in an air fryer. The secret is to prep your wings by drying them with paper towels, and then sprinkling them with baking powder! I also salt and pepper them to give them a boost of flavor.
Baking powder draws any additional moisture out of the skin, and makes these extra crispy.
Step 1: Dry the wings by either letting them sit out at room temperature or using paper towels to blot off excess moisture. Lightly salt and pepper them, and then sprinkle them with baking powder.
Step 2: Heat an air fryer to 390º F and set it for 5 minutes to preheat. Once it’s heated, add the chicken wings, and reset the air fryer to 390º F for 15 minutes.
The Best Tangy Asian Wing Sauce
You can definitely opt for a bottled wing sauce — but I recommend trying this Asian wing sauce! It’s easy to put together, and made from clean ingredients. Once you try this flavorful sauce, you won’t look back!
Step 3: Add all the wing sauce ingredients to a skillet, and whisk until combined. Heat the sauce over medium heat, and whisk to smooth it out, letting it lightly boil for a couple of minutes. The sauce will continue to thicken up as it cools, so don’t over simmer it.
Step 4: Take your wings out of the air fryer, and toss it in the hot Asian wing sauce. Serve them garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.
The secret to this sauce? Delicious, nutty, and healthy SunButter Sunflower Seed Butter.
It gives this sauce a “peanut sauce” flavor, but it’s allergy friendly — meaning you can share these with confidence!
