This Strawberry Colada Green Smoothie is the perfect way to treat your Valentine — sweet, beautiful, and full of nutritious ingredients. A healthy green smoothie that everyone will love.
We love green smoothies. They are made almost daily in our house.
My 18 month old goes through stages where he will literally eat everything, and then he’ll go through weeks where he only wants bread, watermelon, and any chocolate he can seek out. And smoothies. This kid has never turned down a green smoothie.
I make him a lot of pumpkin smoothies. Orange and green vegetables, plus some fruit and yogurt — it’s a great way to know he’s getting all he needs regardless of what else he feels like eating that day.
I’ve always loved strawberries in smoothies– sweet, low in calories, high in fiber, really the perfect smoothie fruit. I haven’t been making a lot of them in recent years because the Dreamy Chocolate Chip Mint and Green Pumpkin Pie Smoothies have taken over our lives (in a very creamy and delicious way).
I have a few really great Valentine’s Day (healthy) dessert recipes to share with you soon! Maybe as soon as this week because I really can’t wait to publish them.
And if you haven’t seen my Valentine’s Love Truffles– these have become a tradition with my husband and I. He isn’t big on sweets (other than my homemade low sugar treats), so I started making him homemade truffles from nuts, dates, dried fruit, dark chocolate, coconut… I have so many different recipes. A few years back, I posted the recipes for the 4 I had made that year. I really should post another 4 recipes, because we make so many variations on these! He really looks forward to these every year, and he takes maybe 2 months to finish the box (I make the box triple layered, like if you bought a chocolate sampler). He will take one out each night to have with a cup of tea, and he loves reading the “map” I include.

Tips for Strawberry Colada Green Smoothie
- I would never take the time to layer this smoothie if it wasn’t for the photos! I imagine as Xander gets older I will do it for him on special occasions. To get the layered look I have in these photos, make 1 smoothie without the spinach (the pink layer), and make the other layer with extra pineapple instead of the strawberries (the green layer).
- Make it Vegan:Â I really love BioChem Natural Whey Protein Isolate. It’s grass fed dairy, and adds the best fluffy and light texture to smoothies. If you can’t or don’t want dairy in your diet, sub your favorite unsweetened protein powder.
- Make it Paleo/Whole30:Â Omit the protein powder. If you’d like to add extra protein, I love using hemp seeds — add the hemp seeds and almond milk to your blender first and blend until smooth, then add the rest of the ingredients.
- For the Family:Â These are great green smoothies for kids because they are beautiful! My toddler doesn’t mind grabbing a big green drink, but older kids might. Berries and cocoa powder are great ingredients for hiding the “green”. Even if you don’t layer this smoothie, the red of the strawberries is a stronger color than the green of the spinach. If your kids are really picky, try adding frozen zucchini to their smoothies. I freeze leftover zucchini from making “noodles” and add it to smoothies, and there is no color or flavor, but adds nutrition.
