The Blueberry Metabolism Booster Smoothie is a creamy and delicious blend of fruits, veggies and seeds. It’s a sure fire way to rev your metabolism! Read about the benefits of this particular blend of smoothie ingredients.
A few years back, I posted the original Metabolism Booster Smoothie. That was a delicious combination of grapefruit, pineapple, banana, spinach, green tea and whey protein. It is by far the most popular post on my blog — and I completely understand! Who doesn’t want to wake up a sleepy metabolism?
I for one am a sucker for “easy fixes” when it comes to weight loss and management. Although I maintain a healthy weight, of course I always want to lose “5 more pounds”! I try so hard not to get sucked in to the hype around the internet, because there are millions of sites out there trying to sell you something to “fix” your metabolism.
The truth is, some of them might work. Some of them might not. A lot of them will cause you more harm than good. I’ve been down that road– in high school, I spent lots of money, and possibly damaged my heart (you’ll never be able to tell if some “quick fix” will cause you permanent damage that will come back to haunt you in the future!), on diet pills. And did they make me ultra skinny? No. Did they give me limitless energy? No. An empty wallet and a racing heart. I wonder to this day if my abuse of these pills led to my intolerance of caffeine.
But that does not mean that there aren’t healthy alternatives to give your metabolism a boost. No, they aren’t quick, they aren’t magic, but they are effective! Healthy, whole foods, high in protein, fiber and water really do work! Exercise, and building lean muscle mass, work too.
My original Metabolism Booster Smoothie had whey protein — and while I still use this, and still love it, I am working on using more unprocessed ingredients in the things I eat every day– like smoothies.
This recipe relies on the power of chia and hemp seeds for protein, making it Whole30, vegan, and Paleo, for those with dietary restrictions or goals.

The Power of the Blueberry Metabolism Booster Smoothie
Hemp Seeds
These powerful little seeds have become quite popular in the health and nutrition sphere due to their high Omega 3 and protein content. They contain all essential amino acids, making a complete vegetarian protein.
My Chocolate Cherry Breakfast Cookies are another tasty way to eat your hemp.
Chia Seeds
Chia are also fiber and protein powerhouses! The real weight loss potential in chia is it’s ability to absorb 3xs its weight in water, meaning they are super filling.
I love to add chia to yogurt and oat parfaits.
Ginger
Ginger is among the spice superstars, along with turmeric, cinnamon, a cayenne, when it comes to stoking your metabolism. Ginger contains gingerols and capsaicin, which are thermogenic and cause small but significant boost in your metabolism.
Ginger is amazing in baked goods, but also in meat marinades.
Blueberries, Watermelon, Spinach and Cucumber
Blueberries, watermelon, spinach and cucumbers are great smoothie ingredients. They all are high in fiber (this smoothie has a combined 13 grams of fiber, half the daily recommendation!). They also all have high water content, which helps you stay fuller longer.
Watermelon also contains arginine, an amino acid acid that prevents fat storage.

Blueberry Metabolism Booster Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 cup grapefruit juice
- 1/4 cup almond milk
- 2 cups spinach fresh
- 3/4 cup blueberries frozen
- 1/2 cup watermelon raw
- 1/4 cup cucumber sliced
- 2-4 ice cubes
Instructions
- Add the chia seeds, hemp seeds, ginger powder, grapefruit juice and almond milk to a blender. If you do not have a high speed blender, it helps to allow the seeds to absorb liquid before blending (about 10 minutes).
- Add the spinach and cucumber, and blend until the seeds and greens are liquidized.
- Add the blueberries, watermelon and ice, and blend until smooth.
