Single Serving Apple Crisp – in the Air Fryer!
Last summer, I posted this fun Air Fryer Peach Crisp recipe. It’s so simple and such a great way to keep the emphasis on the fruit!
For fall, I started experimenting with an apple crisp recipe. Apples need to cook longer than peaches, so it works best to chop them and add them to single serving ramekins.
The apples cook in the air fryer until sweet and tender, while a simple crisp topping is combined. The crunchy topping is similar to an oatmeal cookie. If you love the simplicity of air fryer recipes, this easy dessert recipe is a must try!
This recipe is perfect to share — or, meal prep it and have single serving apple crisps ready for the week ahead!
It’s apple picking season. If you don’t want to put the time into a traditional apple pie, you’ll love the ease of these mini desserts.
What are the best apples to use for baking? We love pink lady, honey crisp, and gala apples. Granny smith apples or others with a tart flavor and firm texture will also work.
I love making fruit crisps with a topping inspired by my favorite Chocolate Chunk Oatmeal Cookie recipe. This recipe uses SunButter sunflower seed butter.
SunButter is an incredible addition to healthier, gluten free and lower carb baking. I use it for so many of my cookie recipes (try these Salted Caramel No Bake Cookies and these Chocolate SunButter Bars).

What You’ll Need:
Apple Filling:
- Apples (Honey Crisp, Pink Lady, and Gala are my fav kind of apples!)
- Lemon Juice
- Coconut Oil
- Maple Syrup (honey or coconut sugar are great subs!)
- Arrowroot Powder (sub tapioca or organic corn starch)
- Cinnamon
Crisp Topping:
- Oats (I buy these glyphosate free sprouted oats – certified gluten free! Use old fashioned or rolled oats, not quick oats, for the best texture.)
- Unsweetened Shredded Coconut (optional)
- Coconut Oil (or cold butter)
- Maple Syrup
- SunButter No Sugar Added
- Sea Salt
- Cinnamon
How to Make Air Fryer Apple Crisp
Step 1: Cut, core, and peel apples. Chop into small chunks and add to a large bowl of water with lemon juice to prevent browning. (Apple slices are more difficult to fit into ramekins!)
Step 2: Drain the apples and add them into a mixing bowl along with maple syrup, lemon juice, coconut oil, arrowroot, and cinnamon. Toss the apples to evenly coat.
Step 3: Divide the apples between 4 small ramekins (6-8 ounces). Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
Step 4: Preheat the air fryer to 390º F for 5 minutes. Add the ramekins to the air fryer basket and cook the apples for 25 minutes.
Step 5: In a medium bowl, add the SunButter, maple syrup, coconut oil, sea salt and cinnamon. Stir well to combine.
Step 6: Add the oats and optional coconut (or nuts). Stir to mix into a crumbly topping.
Step 7: Remove the foil from the ramekins, and divide the crisp topping between the 4 dishes on top of the tender apples.
Step 8: Return to the air fryer for 5 minutes, until the topping is golden brown.
These are best served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Add to the top of a hot apple crisp.
Tips & Tricks
How to Store Leftover Apple Crisp: Once the apple crisps have cooled, cover the tops with foil or plastic wrap, or place in an airtight container, and refrigerate up to 5 days. To warm apple crisp, cover with foil and add to the air fryer at 350º F for 10 minutes.
How to Serve Apple Crisp: These fun mini apple crisps are awesome topped with vanilla ice cream or vanilla frozen yogurt. Make it high in protein and lower in sugar by topping it with a scoop of plain Greek yogurt.
Make this delicious dessert even more special with a homemade (healthier!) caramel sauce.
- SunButter Caramel Sauce: Mix 3 tablespoons of SunButter with 3 tablespoons maple syrup, and stir together until very smooth.
No Air Fryer? These individual portioned apple crisps can be made in a regular oven! Follow the directions, but preheat oven to 425º F and bake the apples covered with foil for 30 minutes. Lower the oven temperature to 350º F, add the crisp topping to the dishes with baked apples, and bake for an additional 8-9 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
Mix it Up: Add 1/2 cup of fresh cranberries or raspberries to the apple mixture. You can also make these with 3 cups of blueberries or chopped peaches, or 1/2 persimmons and 1/2 apples, to change it up!
